about us
Back in 1975 I worked on a 1200 acre farm with lots of cattle and horses. One needed a dog that would stay with you everywhere you went, whether it was to fix a fence on horseback, go in a truck or on foot. A dog that was always ready to help if needed, even if you were not paying attention to your surroundings, and one that was glad to help any way you needed them. A dog that could ride in the back of your truck and never get out unless called. One that could figure out that if it got hot in the back of the parked truck, then he could get out and stay in the shaded area, under the truck, until you returned. Most everything was just natural to them. You didn't even have to ask.
I saw an article in The Progressive Farmer magazine about ES dogs and also an ad from Edna Blankenship in Tennessee. So I bought one from her. He would eat a cow up, head or heels. The rougher a cow got, the tougher he got to get the job done. He did this with minimal training, and would keep putting pressure on one, until you turned him off. He would wear a big copperhead snake out without you telling him what you wanted. Just seemed to always know what you needed him to do. He would follow me every step I made all day long. He wanted me to know he was there to take care of anything I asked him to do.
From that point on, I have been crazy about the breed and have raised a few litters when I felt good enough to do it. I have had my dogs around friends' cattle a little over the years and the dogs will still do what my earlier dogs did. Some do it a little better than others.
Brenda has been involved with English Shepherds for 22 years now. We are very passionate about our dogs, and always have been. We no longer have farm animals.
All of our dogs are very well behaved. They are spoken to softly, just like humans are. You don't ever holler at them. I have found that if they don't immediately obey, then they were really involved in something, but another soft command is usually all it takes. Sissy stays in the house. She is absolutely one of the best behaved dogs I have ever owned.
As far as I am concerned, no other breed of dog has ever compared to the English Shepherd. Our current bloodlines came from very worthy breeders. We just want to continue a pretty good bloodline that would continue the tradition of the English Shepherd I grew to love. This is why we try and raise a couple litters each year to continue this breed on for others to have, just as we did. The English Shepherd can be a pleasure dog, a farm/ranch helping hand, a therapy dog, or just a good buddy for your children. This breed is one of kind.
